Interview with a Chinese Slinky Master

If you were bored on the internet in late 2017, you might have seen this short clip of an Asian dude mesmerizing some children with a slinky: 

Personally, I had about 87 bajillion people send me this video until I was screaming into the void to just please make the notifications stop. 

To this day, this video still gets reposted to Reddit every few months or so. 

When I saw another clip of him a year or so later, I did some digging and found out that he goes by XiaTian (夏天), pronounced more or less like "shah - tea - en," which means Summer. 

XiaTian was one of the first people to discover the magic of slinky manipulation back in the early 2010s. He has since trained many others, who have in turn trained others, and now you can find many incredibly skilled slinky manipulators on the Chinese version of TikTok, DouYin (抖音) - that is, if you can manage to download it. In the Apple App Store, it's geo-blocked to everyone outside of China. 

A few months ago I found this awesome little interview with XiaTian from a Korean YouTube channel, who have graciously included English subtitles! 

In the video below, XiaTian tells you his origin story of how he got into slinky manipulation, and even gives you a really quick 3 trick tutorial.

I was flattered to hear him use the English terms "Energy Beam" and "Escalator" (which I coined in my 2016 tutorials), even though almost everything else he says is in Chinese!
